Portrait of Barata Mardikoesno, S.H., M.B.A.

Barata Mardikoesno is a seasoned legal and corporate affairs executive with over 25 years of experience advising boards, regulators, and investors across Indonesia’s telecommunications, energy, infrastructure, and tourism sectors. Since graduating from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law in 1997 and later earning his MBA with distinction from the University of Technology Sydney, he has built a career defined by disciplined deal-making, regulatory fluency, and an ability to translate complex legal risk into clear commercial direction for senior leadership.

Barata’s reputation as a mergers & acquisitions specialist was forged over more than a decade in the telecommunications industry, where he served as Corporate Legal Counsel at PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi (Telkom Group) and Senior Manager Legal at PT AXIS Telekom Indonesia. In these roles he led the legal due diligence and structuring behind some of the sector’s most significant infrastructure transactions, including the handover of 3,672 telecommunication towers from the Telkom Group and the successful acquisition of 272 towers with a satisfactory completion rate. He was similarly instrumental in preparing consortium loan facilities with BRI, BNI, and Mandiri, and in supporting IPO due diligence alongside KPMG and Barclays, work that continues to inform his approach to capital markets and cross-border transactions today.

His command of telco and infrastructure law was further sharpened through earlier roles at Nokia Siemens Networks, where he advised on legal due diligence, contract review, and regulatory compliance for major network operators including Telkomsel, Indosat, XL Axiata, and Hutchison, for coordinated tower-sharing (BTS) arrangements across Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Lombok.

As Head of the Corporate Legal Division at PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia (ITDC), a state-owned enterprise, he provided strategic legal counsel to the CEO and Board, safeguarded tenant and investor relationships across the Nusa Dua estate, and supported land acquisition for the Mandalika Special Economic Zone in Lombok — finalizing contracts with partners including PP, WIKA, Jasa Marga, Pertamina, Pullman, Club Med, Mandiri, and BNI. He most recently served as VP Legal & Corporate Secretary at PT Taman Safari Indonesia, directing legal operations across eight business units nationwide and leading the company’s 2026 IPO readiness program, including group restructuring, tax optimization, and subsidiary realignment.

Beyond his industry roles, Barata has shaped legal and regulatory policy at the national level as Head of the Legal Bureau at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), where he structured and executed 205 agreements with domestic and international partners and led legislative and law-enforcement relations with government.

Drawing on his experience as in-house counsel across various industries and organizations, as well as a professional lawyer in a law firm, Barata has always advised all his corporate clients on commercial and transactional matters across TMT, energy, and property, delivering a risk-reduction track record through robust contract structuring, M&A execution, project financing, and market-entry counsel especially for international investors.
