Practice Area

Indonesia's fintech and digital economy sector is one of the most dynamic and rapidly regulated markets in Southeast Asia. HWMA's fintech practice advises fintech companies, financial institutions, technology investors, and platform operators on the full range of licensing, regulatory compliance, and transactional matters arising from Indonesia's evolving digital financial services framework. Our team is experienced across all major fintech verticals, including payment systems, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending, equity crowdfunding, digital banking, and digital asset and crypto services.

We advise on licensing and compliance under the frameworks administered by the OJK and Bank Indonesia, including OJK Regulation No. 40 of 2024 on P2P Lending Services, OJK Regulation No. 3 of 2024 on Financial Technology Innovation (sandbox framework), and Bank Indonesia Regulation No. 23/6/PBI/2021 on Payment System Providers. Following Law No. 4 of 2023 (UU P2SK), which transferred regulatory authority over crypto assets from Bappebti to the OJK as of January 2025, we assist digital asset businesses and exchanges in transitioning to the new OJK regulatory framework and obtaining the required licenses.
